9FAM 41.61 N6.1-3 Adequate Medical Insurance
(CT: VISA- 1207; 04-23-2009)
While F and M students and their dependents are not required to have U.S. Medical insurance or travel insurance in order to qualify for a visa, most schools require students to have medical insurance. Assurance that a student would be able to afford any health care expenses in the United States could certainly help a student overcome public charge concerns.
Coverage: The plan must meet the minimum requirements suggested by SEVIS:
- Medical benefits of US $50,000 per accident or illness
- Repatriation benefits of $7,500
- Medical evaluation benefits of $10,000
- A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident.
