Why St. John's?
How is St. John's different from other schools in the area? Here are just a few examples of what makes St. John's an extraordinary school and a special place for your family.
Small Class Sizes
St. John's prides itself with providing its students with an educational
experience that pays attention to individual needs. This is accomplished with small class sizes
and instructional aides in Kindergarten - 5th Grade. Class sizes in
Grades 6th-8th are reduced in Math and Writing to a ratio of 13:1.
Challenging Academics
St. John's curriculum is designed to challenge each student to attain
their personal best. Students in Grades
2-8 are ability-grouped for Math. Classes in Spanish, Art, and Information
Technology are just a few of the enrichment programs that are blended into the
academic programs to encourage total child development. For more information,
please download our Curricula Continuum from this website.
Diverse Learning Styles
St. John's has two programs that were designed to meet the needs of our
students that require additional support or challenges.
-
The START Program, along with our Learning Resource
Specialist, addresses the academic needs of students with learning
difficulties.
-
The Scholars' Program is designed for students who
excel in the area of Language Arts. Students meet with our Gifted Resource
Specialist, who works with them to nurture their unique gifts and talents.
We Are a Caring Community
The people that work at St. John's understand the importance of providing
a nurturing community and creating a place where there is a shared
understanding of what it means to do well and to be a good person. The teachers form relationships with their
students that carry on for years to come. St. John's Headmaster, Jim Lusby, often reminds us that it is important for
our students to "do well and do good".
St. John's Alumni Value Their Education
The following quote is from a
former St. John's student, Melissa Wohlgemuth, who is currently a student at
George Washington University: "St. John's provided me with a secure learning
environment which fostered learning in and out of the traditional classroom
setting. Much of who I am today is a
result of the opportunities which I was given throughout my years as a member
of the St. John's community."
