Renzulli Learning
St. John's Episcopal School proudly announces an exciting addition to the current, comprehensive, academic program. Renzulli Learning, a web-based (internet) software application and database is specifically designed for students' use across all grade levels. This program was purchased by the School during early summer, and all teachers were trained on the system during Orientation Week. While 2,800 schools across the U.S., Canada, Bermuda and the Middle East are enjoying the evident benefits of Renzulli Learning, St. John's is the only school in Orange County to offer this opportunity to its Kindergarten through Eighth Grade students.
Based upon 30 years of research by Drs. Renzulli and Reis at the University of Connecticut, Renzulli Learning allows all students unique opportunities to explore their interests via technology. The program, through a grade-appropriate survey technique, assesses students' perceived interests, abilities, learning styles and expression styles. Then given these individual differences, students gain access to their own enrichment databases. Renzulli Learning selects thousands of activities, organized as follows:
- Critical thinking activities
- Virtual and real field trips
- Projects and independent activities
- Contests and competitions
- Websites
- Fiction/nonfiction/how-to/e-books
- Online activities and classes
- Research sites
- Videos and DVDs
Company representatives share that sites and activities have been thoroughly prescreened for appropriate content.
Research and subsequent data available through Renzulli Learning suggest that regular use of the system results in an increase in standardized test scores. Published results in reading comprehension, reading fluency, social studies, and science increased dramatically according to available statistical summaries. Increased students achievement is seemingly affected by student interest in pursuing topics and activities of choice.
We look forward to making Renzulli Learning available to all students at selected sites on campus and in your homes. Further information on how to access the system will be forthcoming in future communications.
